Governance & Policy
The Illawarra Academy of Sport is an independant, not-for-profit, incorporated sporting organisation that is governed by a board which consists of seventeen directors including nine permanent and eight elected community representatives.
The Illawarra Academy of Sport undertakes coroporate governance activities which are consistant with the Australian Sports Commission General Corporate Governance Principles. The Academy regularly reviews its governance practices and its Strategic direction in line with the best corporate governance practices.
The Illawarra Academy of Sport operates under a set of Policies which have been formulated and adopted by the Board of Directors to ensure the organisation adheres to its mission statement and strategic direction and achieves its long-term goals.
The Academies Policies and procedures are designed to influence and determine all major decisions and actions, and all activities take place within the boundaries set by them. Procedures are the specific methods employed to express policies in action in day-to-day operations of the organisation. Together, these policies and procedures ensure that a point of view held by the Academy is translated into steps that result in outcomes compatible with the 2012-17 Strategic Plan.
