The Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS) is the first regional academy established to further the development of young sporting athletes. Since its first athlete intake in 1986, more than 5000 athletes have benefited from an academy scholarship with over 160 athletes currently pursuing their sporting goals through IAS programs. Many of these athletes have gone on to excel at the national and international level including Brett Lee (cricket), Luke Wilkshire (soccer), David Smith (kayaking), Kieran Govers & Tristan White (hockey), Josh Morris (rugby league), Daniel Palmer (rugby union), Sally Fitzgibbons (surfing), David & Emma McKeon (swimming), Siobhan Paton (AWD), Leif Selby & Karen Murphy (lawn bowls), Ben Kerstan, Rachelle Gilmore & Caleb Ewan (cycling), and Ryan Gregson (athletics), plus many more.
In order for these athletes to achieve success through the IAS scholarship programs, the IAS believes in taking a “whole athlete” approach to athlete development. The IAS is seeking expressions of interest from highly qualified sport education consultants to provide education and guidance to IAS scholarship holders, and programs staff. Required fields include (but are not limited) to:
- Sport Psychology;
- Public Speaking and Media Skills;
- Injury Management and Prevention;
- Time management;
- Drugs in Sport;
- Core Strength & Conditioning;
Positions with the IAS shall be on a per session basis and consultants will be remunerated after approval from the General Manager.
