The Illawarra Academy of Sport has had a successful campaign at the 2019 Your Local Club Academy Games from 12-14 April. It showcases some of the state’s most talented emerging athletes across a selection of sports including Basketball, Golf, Hockey, Netball, Tennis, Softball, AFL and Triathlon. The IAS boasted one of the largest squad’s at the Games, with over 115 athletes, coaches and staff in attendance.
IAS Cyclists Sarah Cliff and Ryan Britten have been named Cycling NSW Female and Male 2018 U15 Cyclists of the Year! The award was announced during the Cycling NSW U15 & U17 State Track Championships, where IAS athletes produced outstanding performances.
Our 2018 Illawarra Mercury Tobin Family Award winner, Kieran Woolley, has had a terrific start to 2019. Kieran has been busy skating all around Australia and producing some of his biggest wins yet!

Over February we hosted our Personal Development Camps at Berry Sport and Recreation Centre. The camps aim was to better athlete’s resilience, leadership, goal setting, teamwork, confidence and problem solving.
The full IAS Triathlon Squad competed at one of their major events for the year, the NSW All Schools Triathlon at Sydney International Regatta Centre Penrith Lakes on 28 Feb (Individual) and 1 March (Relay), Brooklyn Henry became the new NSW Intermediate Champion and was closely followed by Liam Hinchcliffe in 2nd, Joel Offord also finished 2nd in the Junior category. The Tri Squad also backed up and produced strong performances in the Wollongong Splash on 2 March.
IAS Athletes produced strong performances and results at the recent Swimming NSW Country Championships, including 5 Gold Medals, 10 Silver and 4 Bronze.
The IAS Triathlon Squad have participated in a Summer Development Camp to improve their skill and personal development, particularly with race preparation and draft legal cycling skills.
IAS Basketballers have been busy representing NSW Country across the state for the NSW Country Development Tournament and Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup.
Tim Walsh competed in the first Tennis Championship for the II2 Category (exclusively for athletes with Down Syndrome) hosted by the Australian Open in conjunction with Sport Inclusion Australia.
Illawarra Academy of Sport Current Scholarship holders and Alumni have been well represented in the NSW Indoor Hockey Teams at the recent National Indoor Hockey Championships.
